Meet Dr. Butehorn
Biography
Dr. Butehorn is a graduate of Spartanburg High School. He received a B.S.E. in biomedical engineering with a minor in history from Duke University. He earned his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. He was an otolaryngology-head and neck surgery research fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.
Dr. Butehorn is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a fellow with the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Rhinologic Society and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Dr. Butehorn has served as president of the South Carolina Society of Otolaryngology, the Spartanburg County Medical Society and the MUSC Alumni Association. He is the co-chair of the head and neck cancer tumor board at the Gibbs Cancer Center. He serves on multiple boards at Spartanburg Regional and Mary Black Hospital. Currently, he is the trustee representing Union, Cherokee and Spartanburg counties for the South Carolina Medical Association.
Dr. Butehorn enjoys all aspects of otolaryngology. He has special interests in treating children, diseases of the sinuses, and the treatment and diagnosis of snoring and sleep apnea. He has received extra training in minimally invasive sinus surgery. He takes pride in his surgical treatment of thyroid, parathyroid and head and neck cancer patients. Dr. Butehorn is involved in research to improve medical and surgical treatments in otolaryngology.
Dr. Butehorn is married and has a son and a daughter. He enjoys traveling, skiing, genealogy, history and Duke and South Carolina athletics.
