Ear deformities are present in 15-25% of all newborns, with most of them staying the same or worsening over time if left untreated. Traditionally, otoplasty has been the only option for alleviating ear deformities, but the EarWell infant ear correction system offers a nonsurgical alternative.
EarWell is a flexible covering that contains components for reshaping your child’s ears. It works best on babies within 1-6 weeks of age while the ears are at their most pliable. Our team at Spartanburg | Greer ENT & Allergy will work with your family to determine if EarWell would be a good fit for your child and get them started with this treatment.
How EarWell Works
As newborns, babies have high levels of estrogen in their bodies, which in turn leads to high levels of hyaluronic acid. This means that their ears are soft and pliable, allowing them to be easily reshaped.
Your child’s EarWell will be replaced every few weeks as it gently reshapes their ears. Because the high levels of estrogen and hyaluronic acid decline quickly, the successful window for EarWell treatment is narrow.
One study found that EarWell works best when started within the first week of a baby’s life, and at three weeks from birth, only half of infants had an effective response. The same study found that EarWell had a success rate that exceeded 90%.
